DESCRIPTION: Up to 75mm. An impressive caterpillar that feeds in large numbers and strips branches of its host with great effect. The hairy body is dark yellow with numerous broken longitudinmal lines and dots. The feet and head are black. Eventually the larvae disperse and pupate in the soil beneath the food plant where they overwinter. FOODPLANT: Feeds on a wide array of deciduous trees and shrubs including elm, oak, lime, beech and hazel. SEASON: August to September.
